Garry has qualifications as an architect with broad architectural experience since 1978, including conservation work over the past 10 years. The range of experience has generally involved the various aspects of architectural practice, including design, contract documentation and contract administration.
His involvement in conservation work includes adaptive reuse of the Laundry building at the Thomas Walker Estate, and the conservation of the Stables building at the Dame Edith Walker Hospital, both at Concord. These projects included contract documentation, tendering, evaluation of tenders, as well as contract administration. Other adaptive reuse projects have been the conservation of the State heritage listed Glenalvon for Campbelltown Council, and the National heritage listed Barracks building at Garden Island.
Conservation experience has also been gained on a 'modern' building with a Conservation Management Plan prepared for the Wentworth Hotel, including the design and implementation of interpretative signs, related artwork, photographs and an interactive computer installation.
Recent work has included the preparation of a Statement of Heritage Impact for the State heritage listed Alexandra Canal and the adjacent Woolsheds, as part of a major urban renewal project. Working with the design architects and landscape consultant, the design process sought to reconcile compatible uses for the Woolsheds with their significant fabric, as well as to develop an interpretative approach to urban landscaping between the canal and the new built structures. |
