CM+ prepared a detailed Urban and Landscape design for this motorway in close consultation with the State Planning Authority, local Councils, Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust, Art Gallery of NSW and Centennial Park & Moore Park Trusts. The office was responsible for designing the landbridge, the Toll plaza, Motorway Administration building, noisewalls, bridges and all urban and landscape design elements.
The overriding design principle was to minimise impacts on existing urban precincts by integrating the motorway into their particular urban and landscape setting. Tunnelling, landscaping, noise reduction and the restoration of street continuity are key strategies in acknowledging and enhancing the existing urban amenity. The design character of the motorway responds to and has been strongly influenced by the identity of adjacent precincts, their heritage and character to enable users to be better orientated to their surroundings.
