| Darling Walk |
CM+ was engaged following a limited competition to design Darling Walk, one of the last, yet perhaps the most important developments on Darling Harbour. The project was conceived to capitalise on emerging city lifestyle trends, and involved the development of an innovative, prototypical brief; and the incorporation of the 'fast fun' business concept into the Darling Harbour precinct.
The prime 18,446m2 site required vigorous analysis to determine physical limitations, in ground site constraints, access, massing and form, in addition to image and ambience. Following Darling Harbour Authority approval, Building Approval was gained for the $120 million development which was to be constructed in three stages. A unique feature of the development is the diversity and mix of uses ranging from theatres - outdoor and indoor, an Omnimax, amusement/ video areas, restaurants, amusement rides, open space lake-based activities, food concessions and retail outlets. Each is programmed for change in the short and long term through the adoption of a 7.2m2 modular grid system, standardisation, and component interchangeability, all achieved within tight budgetary allowances.
